RCB celebrations turn violent; fans damage buses, arrests made.
At least 18 people have been arrested in Andhra Pradesh’s Kurnool and parts of Hyderabad after celebrations marking Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL victory turned violent, with fans allegedly damaging public and private property, police said on Monday. According to officials, the incidents occurred near Raj Vihar Centre in Kurnool city on the night of the final match, when large groups of cricket fans gathered on the streets to celebrate RCB’s second consecutive IPL title win.
What began as festive gatherings reportedly escalated into disorderly behaviour in several locations. Police said a group of individuals targeted Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) buses during the celebrations, breaking windows and causing damage to public property. Several private vehicles and roadside installations were also reportedly vandalised during the chaos.
Following multiple complaints, a case was registered and District Superintendent of Police Vikrant Patil directed officers to identify those responsible. Police subsequently reviewed CCTV footage, social media videos and other technical evidence to track down suspects involved in the incidents. Based on the investigation, 18 individuals were identified and arrested. On Monday, they were produced before court after being escorted from the Two Town Police Station under tight security. Police also conducted a public escort march through parts of the city, drawing attention from local residents and traders.
