Rayudu Blasts SRH Leadership: "No Planning" Behind Collapse as Winning Streak Ends
Ambati Rayudu criticises SRH planning after IPL 2026 defeat to KKR.
Former India Cricketer Ambati Rayudu has criticised Sunrisers Hyderabad and their Captain Pat Cummins for what he described as “complacency” and lack of planning in their IPL 2026 defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders. The loss on May 3 ended Hyderabad’s five-match winning streak and dented their chances of climbing to the top of the points table.
Speaking during a post-match analysis, Rayudu said SRH appeared to underestimate their opponents and relied too heavily on momentum rather than strategy. He was particularly critical of the decision to bat first, suggesting the team assumed they could outplay KKR without adapting to match conditions. According to him, the approach reflected overconfidence following a run of successive victories.
SRH’s batting performance failed to justify that decision, as the team was bowled out for 165 in 19 overs. Despite having a strong lineup, Hyderabad could not bat through the full 20 overs, with their innings lacking stability in key phases. Rayudu noted that the team did not resemble one coming into the contest with five consecutive wins, pointing to gaps in execution and preparation.

In response, KKR, led by Ajinkya Rahane, chased down the target comfortably, winning the match by seven wickets with 10 balls to spare. The result kept Kolkata’s playoff hopes alive while exposing tactical shortcomings in Hyderabad’s game plan. Rayudu added that the pitch conditions in Hyderabad typically favour chasing later in the day, making SRH’s initial decision questionable.
He further highlighted that players familiar with home conditions should have anticipated the nature of the surface, where the ball tends to stop early on before becoming easier to bat against. The failure to account for these factors, he argued, amounted to poor planning and a lack of situational awareness from the team management and leadership.
The defeat also proved costly in the context of the tournament standings. With Punjab Kings losing their match on the same day, SRH had an opportunity to move to the top of the table. However, the setback allowed them to miss a crucial chance to strengthen their position, adding further weight to the criticism surrounding their performance.
