Rajasthan Royals Coach Gives Perfect Reply on Kyle Jamieson's Send-Off to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

Rajasthan Royals coach Vikram Rathour views Kyle Jamieson's send-off to Sooryavanshi as recognition, not aggression.

Rajasthan Royals coach Vikram Rathour offered a calm and measured response after Delhi Capitals pacer Kyle Jamieson’s animated send-off to 15-year-old batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi during their IPL 2026 clash. The incident drew strong reactions on social media, where many fans criticised Jamieson’s celebration after dismissing the teenage opener early in the innings. Rathour, however, chose to interpret the moment differently.

Speaking after the match, Rathour said Jamieson’s reaction should be seen more as appreciation than aggression. He noted that Sooryavanshi has emerged as one of Rajasthan Royals’ key performers this season, making his wicket an important breakthrough. According to the coach, the excitement shown by the bowler reflected the growing value of dismissing the young batter rather than disrespect toward him.

Rathour also defended Sooryavanshi’s dismissal, saying no batter can be expected to score in every match. He added that the youngster has consistently converted starts into impactful innings and remains in good form. The coach mentioned that Sooryavanshi appeared to have some cramp during the game but was otherwise fine, indicating there were no major fitness concerns.

Despite the controversy around the wicket celebration, Rathour was more concerned with Rajasthan Royals’ bowling performance. The team posted a strong total of 225 runs, built on valuable contributions from captain Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel and Donovan Ferreira. However, the bowlers were unable to defend the score, with Delhi Capitals chasing the target down with five balls remaining.

Rathour said Rajasthan’s bowling unit failed to execute plans once again, particularly during the powerplay overs where they conceded too many runs without taking wickets. He stressed that defending totals above 220 should normally be enough to win matches and called for greater discipline and sharper execution from the attack in the games ahead.

The coach also highlighted positives from the batting display, especially the middle-order response after both openers fell cheaply. He said the innings from Parag, Jurel and Ferreira showed the side is not dependent on only one or two players. Looking forward, Rathour expressed confidence that if Rajasthan Royals play to their full potential and improve their bowling, results will turn in their favour.
