R Ashwin Analyses KKR Strategy Despite Team’s Big IPL 2026 Win Over Delhi Capitals

Ashwin questions KKR finishing strategy despite dominant IPL 2026 victory.

Ravichandran Ashwin has questioned certain tactical decisions made by Kolkata Knight Riders despite the team’s commanding victory over Delhi Capitals in the ongoing Indian Premier League season. KKR comfortably chased down a target of 143 inside 15 overs, boosting both their playoff hopes and net run rate as they continued their late-season resurgence.

The victory helped Kolkata move ahead of Delhi in the points table and strengthened their push for a playoff spot after a difficult first half of the tournament. Having struggled for consistency earlier in the season, KKR have now built momentum with a string of important wins and are once again being viewed as serious contenders for the knockout stage.

Despite the convincing performance, Ashwin expressed concerns over KKR’s batting strategy, particularly the use of Cameron Green in the middle order. Speaking on his YouTube channel, the veteran spinner argued that Green is better suited to a top-order role and should not be used as a finisher lower down the batting lineup.

Ashwin said KKR needed greater clarity in defining batting roles and maintaining scoring tempo throughout the innings. According to him, Green should ideally bat within the top three positions, as his game is not naturally suited to batting at number five or six under pressure situations at the death overs.

The former India spinner also highlighted the importance of having adaptable batters capable of adjusting to varying match situations and scoring rates. He pointed to players such as Rinku Singh as examples of cricketers who can shift tempo effectively depending on the demands of the innings.

While criticising certain tactical aspects, Ashwin remained optimistic about Kolkata’s prospects, stating that the team still has the capability to win its remaining league matches. With the playoff race tightening, KKR’s team balance and batting strategy are likely to remain under close scrutiny heading into the decisive phase of the tournament.
