Punjab Kings Owner: IPL Media Rights Poised for 20-30% Growth Next Cycle

The Punjab Kings owner predicts IPL media rights could grow 20-30% next cycle.

Punjab Kings co-owner Mohit Burman has expressed confidence that the next cycle of Indian Premier League media rights could witness a significant increase, predicting a growth of nearly 20-30 percent compared to the current deal.

Speaking about the commercial growth of the IPL, Burman said the tournament continues to expand its reach across television and digital platforms, attracting a wider audience base and stronger advertiser interest every season. According to him, the league’s consistent popularity, combined with increasing global attention towards cricket, makes further growth in media valuations highly likely.

The current IPL media rights cycle, which runs from 2023 to 2027, was sold for a record-breaking Rs 48,390 crore, making it one of the richest sporting media deals in the world. The rights were divided between television and digital broadcasting, reflecting the rapid rise of streaming consumption in India and international markets.

Burman reportedly believes the next auction cycle could deliver another major jump in valuation as broadcasters and digital platforms continue competing aggressively for premium sports content. He also highlighted the league’s growing international appeal and its ability to consistently generate strong viewership numbers year after year.

The IPL has evolved far beyond a domestic cricket tournament and is now regarded as one of the most commercially successful sporting leagues globally. Franchise values, sponsorship revenues, and digital engagement have all risen sharply over the past few years, helping teams and stakeholders benefit from the league’s expanding ecosystem.

Punjab Kings, meanwhile, remain in contention during the ongoing IPL 2026 season as the race for playoff qualification intensifies. The franchise, along with several others, continues to benefit from the IPL’s booming commercial environment, which experts believe still has significant room for growth in the coming years.
