IPL 2026: Punjab Kings Mean Business — Iyer and Wadhera Take Charge in High-Voltage SRH Chase
The Punjab Kings cross 150 chasing SRH's 220 as Iyer and Wadhera steadily rebuild the innings.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash between Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad turned into a high-scoring thriller, with Punjab mounting a strong chase after a dominant start by Hyderabad earlier in the match. The game, played on Saturday, witnessed explosive batting performances from both sides, keeping fans on edge throughout the contest.
Sunrisers Hyderabad began their innings in emphatic fashion, with openers Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head taking full control during the powerplay overs. The duo stitched together a blistering opening partnership, racing to 120 without loss in just eight overs. Abhishek Sharma led the charge with a sensational 74 off 28 balls, while Head supported him with a quickfire 38 off 23 deliveries, dismantling the Punjab bowling attack with aggressive stroke play.
However, the momentum shifted dramatically when Punjab Kings’ Shashank Singh produced a crucial breakthrough. In a decisive spell, he dismissed both openers in quick succession, halting Hyderabad’s rapid scoring rate. Despite the early onslaught, Punjab’s bowlers managed to regain some control in the middle overs, preventing SRH from fully capitalising on their explosive start and restricting them to a total of 220 runs.

Chasing a daunting target of 220, Punjab Kings responded with equal aggression. Openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh provided a flying start, taking the attack to Hyderabad’s bowlers right from the outset. Arya was particularly destructive, smashing a 16-ball half-century and scoring 57 runs off just 20 balls, while Prabhsimran contributed a brisk 51 off 25 deliveries.
The opening pair propelled Punjab to 93 without loss during the powerplay, setting a solid platform for the chase. Their fearless approach ensured that the required run rate remained within reach, putting pressure back on the Hyderabad bowlers. Even after their dismissals, Punjab maintained momentum, crossing the 150-run mark with key contributions from the middle order.
As the match progressed, the contest remained finely balanced, with both teams showcasing strong batting depth and resilience. With Punjab Kings continuing their chase and wickets in hand, the outcome remained uncertain, promising an exciting finish in what has already been one of the most entertaining matches of IPL 2026 so far.
