Punjab Kings and Preity Zinta Warn Against Fake Stories in IPL 2026, Later Edit Statement
Punjab Kings and Preity Zinta warn on fake IPL 2026 stories.
Punjab Kings have issued a strong warning against the spread of misinformation on social media amid rising off-field chatter involving the franchise and some of its players. The statement comes during a turbulent phase for the team’s campaign in the Indian Premier League, where recent performances and online narratives have placed the squad under intense scrutiny.
The franchise, co-owned by Bollywood actor Preity Zinta, initially posted a message on social media urging critics and users to avoid circulating unverified claims. In the original post, the team called for restraint particularly from “sports journalists,” stating that false narratives were being created for engagement. However, the post was later deleted and reissued with the specific reference removed, in an apparent effort to de-escalate controversy.
The revised statement maintained a firm stance against misinformation but adopted a more neutral tone, reiterating that criticism, opinions and banter are part of sport, while fabricated stories and unverified claims are not acceptable. The franchise stressed the importance of fact-checking before amplifying any report online, especially in the current high-pressure phase of the tournament.

The clarification comes at a time when Punjab Kings’ on-field form has dipped sharply. After a strong start in which they remained unbeaten in their first seven matches, the team has now suffered four consecutive defeats, significantly complicating their playoff chances as the league moves into its decisive phase.
Off-field discussions have also contributed to the scrutiny. Spinner Yuzvendra Chahal recently attracted attention after a video allegedly showing him vaping on a flight circulated online, while opener Prabhsimran Singh has faced online speculation regarding his fitness. The franchise has not officially commented on these individual matters but appears keen to limit reputational distractions.
Despite the turbulence, Punjab Kings continue to remain in contention in the IPL standings, and the management is expected to focus on stabilising performances in the remaining fixtures. The latest statement signals an attempt by the franchise to regain control of the narrative both on and off the field as the season approaches its critical stage.
