Phil Salt Set To Return For RCB After Month-Long Finger Injury Break
Phil Salt is set to return for RCB after injury, boosting IPL 2026 playoff campaign.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have received a major boost ahead of the business end of the IPL 2026 season, with overseas opener Phil Salt expected to return to India later this week after recovering from a month-long finger injury.
The England wicketkeeper-batter had been sidelined since April 18, when he injured a finger on his left hand while attempting to stop a boundary during RCB’s match against Delhi Capitals. Following the injury, he returned home for rehabilitation and has not featured in any matches since, leaving a noticeable gap at the top of the order.
According to reports, Phil Salt is now nearing full fitness and is likely to rejoin the squad as RCB prepare for their final league-stage fixtures. However, it remains uncertain whether he will immediately be available for selection in their upcoming clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Hyderabad, with team management expected to assess his match readiness upon return.

RCB, led by a strong all-round campaign this season, have already secured a playoff berth and are in contention to finish in the top two, which would guarantee a Qualifier 1 spot in Dharamsala. The franchise currently sits at the top of the IPL 2026 standings with 18 points from 13 matches, underlining a dominant league-stage performance.
In Salt’s absence, RCB’s batting unit has continued to deliver consistent results, with standout performances from key players in recent matches. Their most recent victory came against Punjab Kings, where they defended a commanding total of 222/4. The innings was powered by strong contributions from senior batters, while the bowling unit held firm under pressure during the chase.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru have benefited from depth in their squad throughout the season, with multiple players stepping up in crucial moments to maintain momentum despite injuries. The potential return of Phil Salt is expected to further strengthen their top order as they head into the decisive phase of the tournament. With playoffs approaching, RCB’s management will now be focused on balancing fitness concerns and squad stability, as they aim to convert their strong league performance into a title challenge in IPL 2026.
