Phil Salt Returns Home For Medical Scans After Missing Three IPL 2026 Matches

Phil Salt returns to UK for finger scans after injury sidelines him from recent IPL matches.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) opener Phil Salt has returned to the United Kingdom for medical scans after sustaining a finger injury, a setback that has temporarily ruled him out of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season. The England batter has already missed the last three matches for the defending champions, prompting concern within the RCB camp as they continue their title defence.

According to reports, Salt picked up the injury during RCB’s home clash against Delhi Capitals on April 18. The incident occurred in the second innings while he was attempting a diving stop near the deep backward square leg boundary. Although he continued briefly after the effort, the damage to a finger on his left hand later required further assessment, leading to his return to the UK for scans. The franchise has not officially disclosed the full extent or nature of the injury.

Salt had been one of RCB’s key contributors at the top of the order before the setback, providing explosive starts alongside the opening unit. In six innings this season, he scored 202 runs at a striking rate of 168.33, underlining his aggressive approach and importance in setting the tone for the batting lineup. His absence has forced team management to adjust their combination at the top.

In his place, Jacob Bethell has been given an extended run as opener, with RCB looking to maintain momentum despite the disruption. The franchise, led by Rajat Patidar, is currently navigating a crucial phase of the tournament and will hope their reshuffled batting order can continue delivering consistent performances as the league progresses.

Reports suggest that both Salt and the RCB management remain optimistic about his recovery timeline. The expectation is that the injury will heal in time for a possible return to India later in the month, depending on medical clearance. The franchise is hopeful he will rejoin the squad during the latter stages of the campaign as they aim to defend their maiden IPL title.

RCB is currently on a short break following their recent defeat to Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad. Several players have taken time off ahead of their next fixture against Lucknow Super Giants. Despite the setback involving Salt, the team remains focused on regrouping and maintaining its position in the tournament standings as the season moves into a decisive phase.
