Pace spearhead Bumrah (INR 18 crore) anchors a varied attack with Deepak Chahar, Trent Boult, and Corbin Bosch, while spin options include Mitchell Santner and mystery bowler Allah Ghazanfar. Uncapped Indian depth comes from Naman Dhir, Raj Angad Bawa, Ashwani Kumar, Raghu Sharma, and wicketkeeper Robin Minz, complemented by overseas keeper Ryan Rickelton and all-rounder Will Jacks. Releases were pragmatic: English pacer Reece Topley (INR 75 lakh) and veteran spinner Karn Sharma were let go after limited impact, alongside backups Satyanarayana Raju, KL Shrijeet, Lizaad Williams, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Bevon Jacobs, and Vignesh Puthur—recouping approximately INR 5 crore. The trades, however, were masterstrokes: Thakur adds lower-order muscle and seam variation, Rutherford injects Caribbean flair after his 2025 heroics with GT, and Markande returns as a proven wrist-spinner for Wankhede’s turning tracks. Head coach Mahela Jayawardene praised the “smart business”, noting the purse constraints force precision bidding for one overseas pacer and a backup keeper to complete a 25-member squad.
