Mayank Yadav Fit to Play: LSG Coach Justin Langer Confirms Pace Attack Ready for DC Opener
LSG host Delhi Capitals at Ekana Stadium on Wednesday in their IPL 2026 opener.
Lucknow Super Giants Head Coach Justin Langer has confirmed that young pacers Mayank Yadav and Naman Tiwari are fit ahead of their opening match against Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League 2026. The match is scheduled to be held at the Ekana Stadium on Wednesday, with both teams looking to start their campaign on a strong note.
Langer described the two fast bowlers as “exciting prospects” and highlighted their readiness for selection, though he stopped short of confirming their inclusion in the playing XI. The Australian coach emphasised that team selection would depend on match conditions, particularly the nature of the pitch, as Lucknow’s red-soil surface could influence the final combination.
Mayank Yadav, known for his express pace and ability to consistently clock speeds above 150 kmph, has been one of the most talked-about young bowlers in recent seasons. Despite injury setbacks interrupting his progress, he has shown promise in limited appearances, picking up nine wickets in six IPL matches and delivering impactful performances in international T20 fixtures for India.

Naman Tiwari, on the other hand, rose to prominence during the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2024, where he emerged as one of India’s leading wicket-takers. Although he is yet to make his senior debut, his performances at the junior level and domestic tournaments have positioned him as a promising addition to the squad’s pace arsenal.
Langer also highlighted the depth of Lucknow’s fast bowling unit, which includes experienced names such as Mohammed Shami, Avesh Khan, Mohsin Khan, and South Africa’s Anrich Nortje. He noted that having multiple fit pacers provides the team with flexibility, allowing them to tailor their attack based on opposition and playing conditions.
As Lucknow Super Giants prepare to face Delhi Capitals, the focus will be on finding the right balance between youth and experience in their bowling lineup. While Mayank’s pace and Naman’s potential offer exciting options, the final decision will hinge on strategy and conditions, leaving fans eager to see whether the 156.7 kmph pacer makes the cut for the season opener.
