Kyle Jamieson Draws Criticism For Send-Off To Vaibhav Sooryavanshi In IPL 2026

Kyle Jamieson criticised for send-off to teenage IPL 2026 batter

Former Indian cricketer Priyank Panchal has criticised Delhi Capitals pacer Kyle Jamieson for his aggressive send-off to 15-year-old Rajasthan Royals batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi during an IPL 2026 match, calling the incident “not a pretty sight” and questioning the gesture’s necessity.

The incident occurred early in the match when Jamieson produced a sharp inswinging yorker in the second over that beat Sooryavanshi’s bat and crashed into the stumps. The dismissal came at a crucial moment for the teenager, who has been one of the breakout performers of the season.

Sooryavanshi, however, was met with an animated celebration from Jamieson after being bowled. The reaction quickly drew attention on social media and from former players, with critics arguing that the send-off appeared excessive given the age and experience gap between the bowler and batter.

Taking to X, Priyank Panchal expressed disapproval of the moment, stating that a 31-year-old player giving a strong send-off to a 15-year-old did not reflect well on the game. However, he also noted that Sooryavanshi’s rising reputation may be contributing to the intensity of opposition reactions.

Despite the early dismissal, Sooryavanshi has been one of the standout young performers this season, coming into the match with over 400 runs in 10 innings, including a century and two half-centuries. His wicket marked only his third single-digit score in IPL 2026.

Following the early setback, Rajasthan Royals rebuilt their innings through a strong middle-order partnership. Captain Riyan Parag and Dhruv Jurel combined for a 102-run stand that stabilised the innings after the top-order collapse.

Parag, who had been under pressure for form earlier in the season, delivered a commanding 90 off 50 balls, bringing up his first fifty of IPL 2026 and silencing critics. Jurel contributed a steady 40 off 32 deliveries, ensuring momentum was maintained.

The finishing phase was dominated by Donovan Ferreira, who produced a rapid unbeaten 47 off just 14 balls, helping Rajasthan Royals reach a formidable total of 225 for six in their 20 overs. The match added another layer to Parag’s eventful season, which has also included disciplinary scrutiny after a 25% match fee fine for vaping in the dugout. Despite that, his performance with the bat marked a significant turnaround in form at a crucial stage of the tournament.
