KKR's Winless IPL 2026 Run Worsens: Rahane Fined Rs 12 Lakh for Slow Over-Rate Against CSK
Rahane is fined Rs 12 lakh for a slow over-rate as KKR remain winless after five IPL 2026 games.
Kolkata Knight Riders captain Ajinkya Rahane has been fined by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for a slow over-rate offence during their IPL 2026 match against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Tuesday. The penalty comes at a time when KKR are enduring a difficult campaign, having failed to register a win in their first five matches of the season.
According to officials, Rahane was found guilty of maintaining a slow over-rate during the fixture, marking a breach of Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which governs minimum over-rate requirements. Since it was KKR’s first such offence of the season, the captain was fined INR 12 lakh as per league regulations.
The disciplinary action adds to a challenging start for Rahane as captain, with Kolkata Knight Riders struggling to find form and balance in IPL 2026. The team’s winless run has placed them at the bottom of the standings early in the tournament, increasing scrutiny on leadership decisions, team selection, and on-field execution.

Rahane is now the fourth captain to be penalised for a slow over-rate offence this season, highlighting a broader issue across teams regarding match pace and compliance with playing conditions. The IPL has maintained strict enforcement of over-rate rules to ensure matches finish within scheduled timeframes, leading to multiple fines across franchises.
Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer was among the earlier players penalised under similar provisions, having been fined for over-rate violations in two separate matches earlier in the season. His fines included INR 12 lakh for the first offence and INR 24 lakh for the second, reflecting the escalating penalties for repeated breaches.
As the season progresses, KKR will be under pressure to address both performance issues and on-field discipline concerns. With no wins so far, the franchise will be looking for a turnaround in form while also ensuring compliance with IPL regulations to avoid further penalties and setbacks.
