KKR CEO Goes Gaga, Calls Sunil Narine ‘King’ After Historic IPL 2026 Overseas Feat
KKR CEO praises Sunil Narine after historic overseas IPL milestone.
The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) CEO Venky Mysore has heaped praise on veteran spinner Sunil Narine after the West Indies all-rounder became the first overseas player in Indian Premier League (IPL) history to reach the landmark of 200 wickets. The milestone came during KKR’s recent win over Sunrisers Hyderabad, further highlighting Narine’s long-standing impact in the league.
The achievement has been particularly significant for KKR, who have endured a mixed campaign in IPL 2026. After suffering a poor start with five consecutive defeats, the franchise has staged a turnaround under skipper Ajinkya Rahane, registering three straight wins to revive their season. The resurgence has been built largely on a more settled bowling attack and improved balance across departments.
KKR’s bowling unit has undergone considerable changes this season due to injuries and form fluctuations. Key pacers such as Harshit Rana and Akash Deep were unavailable for parts of the campaign, forcing the team to restructure its attack. Meanwhile, high-profile all-rounder Cameron Green also struggled for consistency, leading to ongoing discussions around workload management and team combination.

In this context, the emergence of younger bowlers like Kartik Tyagi and Vaibhav Arora has provided much-needed support to the experienced core. Alongside Narine and mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy, the bowling group has begun to function more cohesively, delivering improved performances in recent matches.
The milestone match against Sunrisers Hyderabad showcased this collective improvement. Despite a rapid start from SRH opener Travis Head, who scored 61 off 28 balls, KKR’s bowlers managed to restrict the opposition to 165 after they were 105/1 at one stage. Narine played a key role in the turnaround, finishing with figures of 2 for 31 in four overs and breaking crucial partnerships at a decisive stage of the innings.KKR eventually chased down the target comfortably, with skipper Rahane contributing 43 runs and Angkrish Raghuvanshi adding a valuable 59 to guide the team home with 10 balls remaining. The win marked another step in KKR’s recovery phase this season.
Following the match, Venky Mysore, speaking in a video shared by the franchise, lauded Narine’s contribution and referred to him as the “king” of the bowling unit. He highlighted the spinner’s unusual role in opening the bowling and praised his ability to deliver breakthroughs at critical moments, calling him the “game changer” of the match.Narine’s 200-wicket milestone further cements his legacy as one of the most influential overseas players in IPL history, with his consistency and adaptability continuing to play a defining role in KKR’s campaigns over the years.
