Jemimah Rodrigues Speaks On India’s Goal For Women’s T20 World Cup At Lord’s

Jemimah Rodrigues hopes India win Women’s T20 World Cup.

India women’s batter Jemimah Rodrigues has expressed her ambition of leading India to a maiden ICC Women’s T20 World Cup title at Lord’s, drawing inspiration from India’s historic 1983 men’s World Cup triumph at the same venue. Rodrigues said the team would “love to win” the tournament at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground, referencing Kapil Dev’s leadership in India’s first-ever men’s World Cup victory. She added that achieving a similar milestone in women’s cricket would be a “special” moment for the country and the sport.

The 25-year-old batter, who has emerged as one of India’s key performers in recent years, said the team’s mindset has been strengthened following their recent World Cup success. She noted that lifting a global title had removed a psychological barrier and increased the squad’s motivation to pursue more championships. Rodrigues also highlighted the growing confidence and resilience within the team, stating that India now possesses players with strong character who can adapt to high-pressure situations.

She said this mental strength has been crucial in close matches and will be vital during upcoming international tournaments. Reflecting on her own journey, Rodrigues spoke about overcoming setbacks earlier in her career, including periods of poor form and being dropped from the squad. She said those challenges helped shape her resilience and prepared her for key performances on the international stage.

She also recalled her match-winning unbeaten 127 against Australia in a recent ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup semi-final, describing it as a defining moment that reinforced her belief in perseverance and preparation. India went on to win their maiden World Cup title following that campaign. Looking ahead, India will begin their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign against Pakistan at Edgbaston in Birmingham on June 14. The team, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, is placed in a competitive group that also includes Australia, South Africa, Bangladesh, and the Netherlands.

Rodrigues said past high-pressure encounters, including successful chases against Pakistan, have helped the team build composure in critical moments. She believes these experiences will be important as India aim to secure their first T20 World Cup title on English soil. With a mix of experience, confidence, and recent success, Rodrigues said the team is focused on continuing their winning momentum and creating more memorable moments in global cricket.
