Jacob Duffy Stuns Chinnaswamy on Debut, Dismantles SRH Top Order in Powerplay
RCB debutant Jacob Duffy dismisses Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head and one more cheaply.
Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru made a fiery start to their Indian Premier League 2026 campaign as debutant Jacob Duffy delivered a sensational spell against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Bengaluru. After winning the toss, captain Rajat Patidar opted to bowl first—a decision that paid off immediately.
Duffy struck twice in a single over, removing dangerous openers Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head, before adding a third wicket in the powerplay. His dream debut saw him claim three crucial scalps within the first five overs, leaving SRH in deep trouble early in the innings.
At the end of five overs, SRH were struggling at 33/3, with stand-in skipper Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen attempting to rebuild. The early collapse exposed the middle order much earlier than expected in what was anticipated to be a high-scoring contest.

RCB’s bowling unit, led by experienced pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar, supported Duffy effectively, maintaining pressure throughout the powerplay. The inclusion of uncapped pacer Abhinandan Singh alongside Duffy highlighted RCB’s aggressive and youthful team strategy.
On the other side, SRH, led by Ishan Kishan in the absence of injured Pat Cummins, had also handed a debut to explosive batter Salil Arora. However, their strong batting lineup failed to counter RCB’s disciplined bowling in the opening overs.
In a moment of tribute, RCB players wore black armbands to honour 11 fans who lost their lives in a tragic stampede following the franchise’s historic title win in 2025. While emotions ran high, Duffy’s remarkable debut spell has so far been the defining highlight of the IPL 2026 opener.
