IPL 2026: Mumbai Indians More United Without Hardik Pandya, Says Srikkanth
Kris Srikkanth claims Mumbai Indians appeared more united without Hardik Pandya recently.
Former India captain Kris Srikkanth has sparked debate over the atmosphere within Mumbai Indians after suggesting that the franchise appeared more “united” and relaxed during its victory over Punjab Kings in the absence of regular captain Hardik Pandya. Mumbai Indians secured a convincing six-wicket win in Dharamsala on Thursday while chasing a challenging target of 201 runs. With Hardik unavailable and vice-captain Suryakumar Yadav also absent for personal reasons, pacer Jasprit Bumrah led the side.
Speaking on his YouTube channel after the match, Kris Srikkanth said the team’s body language and overall energy looked noticeably different under Bumrah’s leadership. According to Srikkanth, the squad appeared lighter, more positive, and collectively motivated during the successful chase and bowling performance. While stopping short of making direct allegations, the former cricketer suggested there could be underlying issues within the camp, saying the side looked more cohesive and energized during Hardik Pandya’s absence from the playing eleven.
The former India opener particularly praised Jasprit Bumrah for his calm captaincy and the confidence he brought to the bowling attack. Srikkanth observed that Bumrah appeared visibly relaxed and encouraging on the field, frequently interacting positively with bowlers and maintaining an upbeat attitude throughout the contest. He claimed that the leadership style seemed to help players like Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur bowl with greater discipline and aggression compared to previous matches where Mumbai’s bowling had been inconsistent.

Mumbai Indians produced a strong all-round performance in the high-scoring encounter against Punjab Kings. Shardul Thakur impressed with a four-wicket haul that restricted Punjab despite a competitive batting display, while batter Tilak Varma anchored the chase with an aggressive half-century. Srikkanth also praised contributions from players such as Ryan Rickelton, who provided an attacking start, and youngster Raj Angad Bawa, whose bowling effort drew positive attention. According to him, the team showed strong intent and determination even after being placed under pressure.
The comments arrive at a sensitive time for Mumbai Indians, which has faced intense scrutiny throughout the IPL 2026 season over leadership dynamics and dressing-room harmony. Hardik Pandya’s appointment as captain had earlier generated significant debate among fans and former cricketers, especially after long-time skipper Rohit Sharma was replaced ahead of the season. Since then, every on-field development involving team chemistry and leadership has attracted widespread attention from both supporters and analysts.
While there has been no official response from Mumbai Indians or Hardik Pandya regarding Srikkanth’s remarks, the comments have already generated considerable discussion across social media and cricket circles. Many fans interpreted the former cricketer’s observations as a reflection on leadership style and team morale, while others argued that one victory without Hardik should not be used to draw broader conclusions about the squad. With the IPL 2026 season entering a crucial phase, the spotlight is likely to remain firmly on the Mumbai Indians’ internal dynamics and on-field performances.
