IPL 2025: We Know How to Keep The Scoreboard Ticking! Shubman Gill on SRH Win

Gill Credits GT’s Top Order for Mastering Tricky Pitches in IPL Win

Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill attributed his team’s commanding 38-run victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL on Friday to the top order’s knack for navigating challenging pitches.

Gill (76 off 38), Sai Sudharsan (48 off 23), and Jos Buttler (64 off 37) powered GT to 224/6, with just 22 dot balls, securing a score that SRH couldn’t chase, finishing at 186/6.

Speaking post-match, Gill highlighted the trio’s approach on black-soil pitches, where hitting sixes is tough. “We know how to keep the scoreboard ticking without taking risks. Our top three focus on doing our best, not anchoring till the end,” he said. Addressing his heated exchange with umpires over a review call, Gill noted, “Emotions run high when you give 110%.”

Buttler praised Sudharsan’s consistency and work ethic, saying, “I was blown away by his talent in the nets. His humility and game understanding are exceptional.” Sudharsan’s brisk knock set the tone for GT’s dominance.

SRH captain Pat Cummins admitted his team leaked 20-30 extra runs, virtually ending their playoff hopes with a seventh loss in 10 games.

“GT’s batters are class; they punish bad balls, and we bowled too many,” he said. Despite the setback, Cummins remained hopeful, eyeing a strong core for the next three years post the 2024 auction.

GT’s playoff prospects strengthened, while SRH faces an uphill battle to stay alive in the tournament.
