IPL 2025 To Kick Off with Star-Studded Opening Ceremony at Eden Gardens

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is all set to begin on Saturday, March 22, with defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) taking on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Eden Gardens. This marks the return of IPL’s biggest spectacle, promising another season of high-octane cricket action.

Before the tournament opener, fans will be treated to a grand opening ceremony at Eden Gardens, starting at 6 PM IST. This will be the first time since 2015 that Kolkata hosts the opening ceremony, as per IPL’s tradition of holding the inaugural match and final at the home ground of the previous season’s winners. The final will also be held at Eden Gardens on May 25.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Kolkata is expected to experience thunderstorms and showers on March 22 due to an anticyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal. While early morning showers are predicted to subside by 8:30 AM, cloud cover is expected to persist, with rain likely to return during the match hours.
