India Target Strong Comeback Rhythm Against England Ahead Of T20 World Cup

India aim to regain form against England as preparation builds for T20 World Cup.

India will look to rediscover consistency and settle their combinations when they take on England in a three-match women’s T20I series starting Thursday in Chelmsford, in what serves as their final preparation ahead of next month’s T20 World Cup. With the global tournament set to begin on June 12, the series carries added importance for Harmanpreet Kaur’s side, which has shown strong flashes of form in the past year but has struggled to maintain momentum across consecutive assignments.

India’s build-up to the World Cup has been a mixed campaign. They began on a dominant note with a 5-0 clean sweep over Sri Lanka at home last December, followed by a historic 2-1 series win in Australia—their first bilateral T20I series victory there in a decade. That breakthrough in Australia was widely viewed as a significant step forward, particularly given India’s past struggles in overseas conditions. The team’s improved batting intent and disciplined bowling performances stood out during that series.

However, consistency has remained a concern. India slipped during their subsequent tour of South Africa, where they suffered a 1-4 defeat. The series exposed vulnerabilities in the middle order, finishing ability, and bowling execution under pressure. As a result, the England series is being seen as a crucial opportunity to fine-tune combinations and address key gaps before the World Cup opener against Pakistan on June 14.India’s bowling unit will be under particular focus.

Renuka Singh Thakur, Kranti Goud, and Arundhati Reddy are expected to shoulder pace responsibilities, while the management may also consider giving game time to young pacer Nandini Sharma, who impressed in the Women’s Premier League with her raw pace and control. Conditions in England, which are traditionally more conducive to seam bowling, will test India’s ability to adapt quickly. The bowling group, which struggled for consistency in South Africa, will need to be more disciplined in executing plans in pressure situations.

There is positive news for India in the form of returns for Radha Yadav and Yastika Bhatia. Bhatia, the team’s first-choice wicketkeeper, is back after recovering from an ACL injury, while Radha’s inclusion strengthens the spin department alongside Deepti Sharma, Shree Charani, and Shreyanka Patil. India will also draw confidence from their previous tour of England, where they secured their maiden bilateral T20I series win on English soil with a 3-2 result.

Speaking ahead of the series, captain Harmanpreet Kaur emphasised that adapting to pitch conditions would be the key challenge rather than the weather itself. “We love playing in England conditions because of the weather, it is quite easy for us. The only challenge is the pitches because we are not used to these kind of pitches,” she said, adding that the series would provide valuable experience ahead of the World Cup. With the tournament fast approaching, India will be aiming not just for results in England, but for clarity, rhythm, and confidence in their final competitive outing before the global stage.
