Glazers Bid USD 1.8 Billion for RCB Ownership in Major IPL Franchise Race
Nine parties, including Manchester United owners, submit bids to acquire IPL champions RCB.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), reigning champions of both the Women’s Premier League and the Indian Premier League (IPL), have attracted bids from nine parties, including a USD 1.8 billion offer from the Glazer family, owners of English Premier League club Manchester United. The high-profile sale follows the team’s acquisition by Diageo, parent company of United Spirits Ltd, which began exploring options last November.
Former IPL chief Lalit Modi confirmed the Glazers’ bid had already reached USD 1.75 billion. Modi highlighted that domestic leagues like the IPL are poised to grow exponentially, especially as international fixtures decrease due to player workload and scheduling pressures, making IPL franchises highly valuable assets in the cricketing ecosystem.
The non-binding bids for RCB reportedly range from USD 1 billion to USD 1.8 billion, reflecting strong investor interest. The team’s management is expected to shortlist bidders next week and then invite binding offers from the remaining contenders, signaling a competitive race for ownership of one of India’s most valuable cricket franchises.

Pharma tycoon Adar Poonawalla has also announced plans to make a “strong and competitive” bid for RCB, underlining the high stakes and commercial appeal of the franchise. Analysts say the combination of sporting success, fan following, and broadcasting revenues make RCB a prime investment opportunity, particularly in the expanding IPL ecosystem.
The sale process gained urgency after a tragic stampede during RCB’s IPL victory celebrations in June 2025, which killed 11 fans. Diageo’s decision to sell the team aims to bring in committed ownership that can strengthen infrastructure, fan engagement, and commercial growth.
