Finn Allen Scores Unbeaten Hundred as KKR Chases Down DC Target in 14 Overs
Finn Allen delivers unbeaten century after KKR benching, powering hosts past Delhi Capitals in 14 overs.
Finn Allen delivered a stunning unbeaten century for Kolkata Knight Riders against Delhi Capitals and later admitted that being dropped from the playing XI earlier in the season helped him regain mental clarity and perspective. The explosive opener smashed a 47-ball 100 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium to guide KKR to a dominant eight-wicket victory and keep their playoff hopes alive in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2026 season.
Allen’s knock came after a difficult start to the tournament, where a series of low scores led to him being sidelined for three matches in favour of fellow New Zealand batter Tim Seifert. Returning to the side after a modest score against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Allen responded in emphatic fashion by producing one of the finest innings of the season. His century helped KKR comfortably chase down a target of 143 in just 14.2 overs.
Speaking after the match, Allen said the break from the side allowed him to refresh mentally and reduce the pressure he had placed on himself. He explained that he had focused on developing greater responsibility in his batting and adapting to different match situations rather than relying solely on aggressive strokeplay. Allen added that his goal was to remain at the crease for at least 40 deliveries, believing that spending time in the middle would naturally lead to a substantial score.

Earlier in the evening, Delhi Capitals made a promising start after opener Pathum Nissanka scored 50 off 29 balls in a 49-run partnership with KL Rahul. However, the innings lost momentum after regular wickets through the middle overs. Spinner Anukul Roy claimed two important wickets, while Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy kept the scoring under control with disciplined bowling spells.
Despite a late counterattack from Ashutosh Sharma, who scored 39 runs, Delhi Capitals managed only 142 for eight in their 20 overs. KKR’s chase suffered an early setback when captain Ajinkya Rahane and Angkrish Raghuvanshi departed cheaply. Allen then rebuilt the innings alongside Cameron Green, with the pair adding an unbeaten 116-run partnership that completely shifted the contest in Kolkata’s favour.
The victory marked KKR’s fourth consecutive win after enduring a six-match winless streak earlier in the campaign. The result lifted the defending champions to seventh place on the points table and revived their chances of qualifying for the playoffs. Delhi Capitals, meanwhile, slumped to their fifth straight defeat at home and seventh overall loss of the season, leaving their playoff hopes virtually over as pressure continues to mount on the franchise heading into the final phase of the tournament.
