Delhi Capitals are facing a serious threat of elimination from the 2026 Indian Premier League after suffering another defeat, this time against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Friday. The loss marked Delhi’s seventh defeat in 11 matches, leaving their playoff hopes hanging by a thread with only three league-stage games remaining.
The defeat also highlighted the franchise’s continued struggles at home, where they have now lost five of their six matches this season. While batting failures have played a major role in several setbacks — including their modest total of 142 against KKR — concerns are also mounting over the form of left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav.
The 31-year-old spinner has endured a difficult campaign and has struggled to make an impact with the ball throughout the season. In 11 matches so far, Kuldeep has managed only seven wickets while conceding runs at an economy rate of 10.67, among the highest for frontline bowlers in the tournament.

Against Kolkata, the spinner once again failed to contain opposition batters, conceding 41 runs in just three overs without making a breakthrough. His expensive outing added further pressure on Delhi’s bowling attack and exposed the team’s inability to regain control during crucial middle overs.
Kuldeep, who has previously been regarded as one of India’s leading white-ball spinners, has looked short of rhythm and confidence during the ongoing season. His struggles have coincided with Delhi Capitals’ inconsistent performances, particularly in pressure situations where both bowling discipline and batting depth have been lacking.
With the league stage entering its decisive phase, Delhi Capitals now require near-perfect performances in their remaining matches to keep their playoff hopes alive. However, with net run rate and results elsewhere also likely to play a role, the franchise faces an increasingly difficult path to qualification.
