DC Coach Calls Mitchell Starc Best Role Model After IPL 2026 Win Over RR
DC coach praises Starc’s role model impact after RR win.
Delhi Capitals head coach Hemang Badani has lauded senior Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc, describing him as one of the “best role models” in world cricket after his match-winning performance helped keep the team’s IPL 2026 playoff hopes alive with a crucial victory over Rajasthan Royals.Delhi Capitals secured a five-wicket win against Rajasthan Royals in a high-pressure encounter, a result that lifted them to 12 points and kept them in contention for a playoff berth.
The win was significantly influenced by Starc, who delivered a decisive spell that included a three-wicket over, shifting the momentum firmly in DC’s favour after Rajasthan had made a strong start.Speaking after the match, Badani highlighted Starc’s professionalism and preparation, saying his work ethic sets him apart even among elite players. He emphasised that the Australian pacer’s commitment in training and clarity in planning made him an example for younger bowlers in the squad, particularly in a high-pressure tournament environment like the IPL.
“He’s possibly one of the best role models anyone can have in sport,” Badani said, adding that Starc’s attention to detail and preparation standards were “above par.” He also noted that the pacer frequently engages with younger teammates, sharing insights on execution, including reverse swing, bowling lengths, and strategies for handling aggressive batting.

Badani further explained that Starc was brought into the squad for his ability to impact all phases of an innings, including the powerplay, middle overs, and death overs. He added that the pacer’s versatility and experience in high-stakes matches make him a valuable asset in pressure situations, referencing his performances in major international series as evidence of his match-winning capability.
The DC coach also addressed broader team challenges this season, including inconsistent pitches at their home venue and uncertainty around overseas player availability. He noted that frequent changes in conditions had made it difficult for the team to establish consistency, while decisions by international boards occasionally limited player participation.
Despite these challenges, Badani expressed cautious optimism about the team’s direction, particularly after emerging partnerships and improved performances from younger players. With one league match remaining against Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Capitals remain in a must-win situation as they aim to secure a place in the IPL 2026 playoffs.
