DC and KKR Face Must-Win IPL Playoff Battles Ahead
DC and KKR face must-win matches for IPL 2026 playoff qualification survival.
Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders are set for a crucial clash in the Indian Premier League 2026 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Friday, with both teams battling to keep their playoff hopes alive. The high-pressure contest comes at a decisive stage of the tournament as teams in the middle of the table fight for a place in the top four before the league phase concludes.
Delhi Capitals entered the season strongly and were initially considered among the early title contenders, but their campaign has lost momentum after a poor run of form. The team has suffered four defeats in its last five matches, slipping to seventh place in the standings with only eight points from their campaign so far. Their declining form has significantly complicated their qualification chances, leaving them with little room for further mistakes in the remaining fixtures.
For Delhi Capitals, the qualification equation is now straightforward but extremely demanding. The side has four matches left in the league stage and realistically needs to win all of them to reach the safer qualification mark of 16 points. Even three victories, which would take them to 14 points, may not guarantee a playoff berth given the fierce competition among mid-table teams. Their Net Run Rate of minus 0.949 has also emerged as a major concern and could become decisive if multiple teams finish level on points.

The situation is further complicated because Delhi Capitals are scheduled to face several direct playoff rivals in their remaining matches. Any additional defeat would leave the franchise heavily dependent on other results across the league. The pressure is therefore expected to be intense when they face Kolkata Knight Riders, especially with home advantage offering one of their last realistic opportunities to revive the season.
Kolkata Knight Riders, meanwhile, have managed to recover impressively after a disastrous start that included five consecutive defeats. The defending champions have rebuilt momentum through a strong bowling unit led largely by spin strength, helping them register three successive victories and re-enter the playoff race. The abandoned match against Punjab Kings also handed KKR a potentially valuable extra point that could prove critical later in the standings.
The qualification path for Kolkata Knight Riders remains challenging but slightly more favourable compared to Delhi Capitals. If KKR win all their remaining league-stage matches, they would finish with 17 points and almost certainly secure a playoff berth. Even four wins from their last five games could keep them in contention with 15 points, although that scenario would require favourable outcomes involving rivals such as Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans. However, losing more than one of their remaining matches would likely leave Kolkata short of the qualification mark and dependent on other teams dropping points in the closing phase of the tournament.
