CSK Warned: Priyank Panchal Advises Against Trading Jadeja for Sanju Samson

Former Indian domestic cricketer Priyank Panchal has issued a stern warning to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) against a potential blockbuster IPL trade that could send star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja to Rajasthan Royals (RR) in exchange for wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson. Taking to X on Sunday, Panchal labelled the move a “big mistake”, urging the five-time champions to retain Jadeja—a franchise legend who has been instrumental in their success since 2012. “Trading Jadeja bhai for Sanju could be one of the bigger mistakes @ChennaiIPL could make,” he posted, emphasising Jadeja’s tireless service and irreplaceable value to the team’s core identity.

Reports emerging ahead of the IPL 2026 mega auction suggest RR are pushing for Jadeja as part of a multi-player swap involving Samson, with some outlets claiming South African youngster Dewald Brevis could also be included to balance the deal. Samson, RR’s long-time captain, has been linked with a move to CSK amid speculation over leadership changes, while Jadeja’s future has been under scrutiny following a reported fallout with the management during the 2022 season. However, the left-armer rediscovered peak form in recent years, contributing crucially with bat, ball, and in the field under MS Dhoni and now Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Panchal, a prolific Ranji Trophy run-scorer for Gujarat, argued that parting with Jadeja would violate CSK’s founding philosophy of loyalty and continuity—hallmarks that have defined their dominance under Dhoni’s captaincy. Jadeja has amassed over 2,700 runs and 150 wickets for CSK, including match-winning performances in multiple finals.
