Cameron Green: Manager's Mistake Caused Batter Registration for IPL 2026 Auction

Australia all-rounder Cameron Green explains auction registration error and reassures fans he will bowl in IPL 2026.

Australia all-rounder Cameron Green surprised fans and cricket experts alike when he registered himself as a “batter” ahead of the IPL 2026 auction. The move sparked widespread speculation about his availability to bowl and led to debates over how this might affect his auction value. Many analysts suggested the switch could boost his bid, as top batters are often in high demand during the early rounds of the auction.

Green has now broken his silence on the matter, confirming that he will indeed be available to bowl in the upcoming IPL season. Speaking before Australia’s training session in Adelaide on Sunday, he explained that the registration as a batter was a mistake on his manager’s part. “There was a stuff-up on his end. He didn’t mean to say ‘batter’,” Green said, according to ESPNcricinfo.

Despite the mix-up, Green expressed amusement at how the situation unfolded. He reassured fans that his all-rounder capabilities remain intact and emphasized his readiness to contribute with both bat and ball. The clarification puts to rest concerns among franchises regarding his role in the team.

Green also shared that he plans to follow the auction closely, noting the excitement of learning which franchise will secure him and who his potential teammates might be. “It’s a bit of a lottery where you might go, but also who might be in your team, so it’s always been fun to watch,” he said, highlighting the thrill of the auction process.

Widely tipped as one of the most expensive players in the IPL 2026 auction, Green is expected to challenge the record set by Rishabh Pant last year, which reached INR 27 crore (approx. AUD 4.5 million). Kolkata Knight Riders, holding the largest remaining budget, are the frontrunners to secure him.

With a base price of INR 2 crore (approx. AUD 333,000), Green is set to be among the first six players under the hammer, generating enormous anticipation among fans and franchises alike. His versatile skill set and international reputation make him a coveted player, promising a thrilling auction for IPL enthusiasts.
