Brevis on Mhatre: "He's Special" as CSK Beat KKR By 32 Runs In IPL 2026

Dewald Brevis praises Ayush Mhatre as special after CSK beat KKR by thirty-two runs.

Dewald Brevis expressed delight at returning to competitive cricket after recovering from injury, playing a key role in Chennai Super Kings’ 32-run victory over Kolkata Knight Riders in Indian Premier League 2026. The right-handed batter, who had been sidelined with a side strain, said he felt strong and regained confidence during his time at the crease, enjoying both his batting and fielding contributions in a crucial win.

Speaking after the match, Brevis highlighted how important it was to spend time in the middle and adapt to changing conditions. He described the experience as “special,” particularly playing in front of a lively crowd and getting back into rhythm after injury. His innings of 41 runs off 29 balls helped stabilize the team’s batting effort, reinforcing his value as a dynamic middle-order option for Chennai this season.

While reflecting on the game, Brevis reserved special praise for young teammate Ayush Mhatre, calling him a “special” talent and encouraging him to continue playing with freedom. He emphasized the importance of staying true to one’s natural game, acknowledging that ups and downs are part of every cricketer’s journey, but confidence and enjoyment remain key to long-term success.

In the match itself, Chennai Super Kings posted a competitive total of 192/5 after being put in to bat, with Sanju Samson contributing 48 runs and Brevis adding a vital 41. In response, Kolkata Knight Riders struggled early and, despite a brief recovery led by captain Ajinkya Rahane, failed to maintain momentum as wickets fell at regular intervals.

A decisive spell from Noor Ahmad turned the game firmly in Chennai’s favour, reducing KKR to 90/6 and effectively ending their chase at 160/7. The result leaves Kolkata still searching for their first win of the season, while Chennai moves up the points table, gaining momentum as the tournament progresses.
