Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s Senior India Selection Test To Begin After IPL 2026, Report Says
Vaibhav Suryavanshi faces India selection test after IPL 2026.
Teenage batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been named in the India A squad for the upcoming tri-nation 50-over series in Sri Lanka, marking a key step in what is being seen as a crucial evaluation phase before potential senior national team consideration. The tournament, featuring Sri Lanka A and Afghanistan A alongside India A, begins on June 9 in Dambulla.
The selection is being viewed as an important “acid test” for the young batter, as the series is expected to serve as a performance checkpoint for emerging players within India’s developmental pipeline. According to reports, selectors are keen to assess Sooryavanshi in a competitive multi-team environment as part of the broader transition pathway toward higher international honours.
The tri-series will conclude on June 21, after which India A is scheduled to play two multi-day matches in Galle. However, the squad for the longer-format fixtures will be announced separately. The white-ball squad already features a strong mix of IPL performers and emerging domestic talent, with the average age of the group reportedly around 23 years.

The team is led by Tilak Varma, with Riyan Parag serving as vice-captain. Several players in the squad, including Tilak Varma, Parag, and Anshul Kamboj, have already had exposure to senior international cricket in different formats. The group also includes consistent IPL performers such as Priyansh Arya, Ayush Badoni, Prabhsimran Singh, and others who have impressed in domestic and franchise cricket.
India A will face Sri Lanka A on June 9 and June 15, while matches against Afghanistan A are scheduled for June 11 and June 17. The top two teams after the group stage will meet in the final on June 21. For Sooryavanshi and several other young prospects, the tournament represents a significant opportunity to strengthen their case for future inclusion in India’s senior setup.
