T20 WC 2026: India and Sri Lanka Dominate Day 6 to Claim Top Spots in Respective Groups

Day 6 of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 saw India and Sri Lanka surge to the top of their respective groups, while Italy registered their first-ever win in the tournament to open their account. The day featured matches across India and Sri Lanka, significantly reshaping the points table standings across all four groups.
In Pallekele, Sri Lanka produced a dominant performance against Oman in Group B. Half-centuries from Kusal Mendis, Pavan Rathnayake and Dasun Shanaka powered Sri Lanka to a formidable 225/5 in 20 overs. Oman’s Mohammad Nadeem responded with a fighting fifty during the chase, but the side was restricted to 120/9, handing Sri Lanka a comprehensive 105-run victory. With two wins in as many matches and a net run rate of 3.125, Sri Lanka now sit comfortably at the top of Group B.
Action then moved to Mumbai, where Italy secured a landmark victory over Nepal in Group C. Nepal were bowled out for 123, with Crishan Kalugamage (3/18) and Ben Manenti (2/9) leading the bowling effort. In reply, the Mosca brothers—Justin and Anthony—struck unbeaten half-centuries and combined for a 124-run stand to seal Italy’s first Cricket World Cup win. The result lifted Italy to two points, placing them third in the group behind West Indies and Scotland.

Later in New Delhi, defending champions India outclassed Namibia in Group A. Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya scored half-centuries to guide India to 209/9. Pandya then claimed two wickets, while Varun Chakravarthy and Axar Patel picked up three and two wickets, respectively, as Namibia were dismissed for 116. The 93-run win ensured India maintained a perfect record and moved to the top of Group A with a superior net run rate of 3.050, edging past Pakistan.
Elsewhere, the West Indies lead Group C with four points, while New Zealand and South Africa share the top spot in Group D with identical records of two wins each. Day 7 will begin with Australia facing Zimbabwe in Colombo, followed by Canada taking on the UAE in New Delhi and the Netherlands meeting the USA in Chennai, as the race for the Super Stage intensifies.
