India’s Shooting Stars: Saurabh-Suruchi Snag Bronze at Asian Championships!

Saurabh Chaudhary and Suruchi Inder Singh secure 10m air pistol mixed team bronze in Kazakhstan.

The Indian shooting duo of Saurabh Chaudhary and rising teenage star Suruchi Inder Singh clinched a bronze medal in the 10m air pistol mixed team event at the Asian Shooting Championships on Wednesday. Facing the Chinese Taipei pair of Liu Heng-Yu and Hsieh Hsiang-Chen, the Indian team delivered a commanding 17-9 victory in the bronze medal match, contributing to India’s rising prominence in the continental competition. This achievement follows the individual bronze won by double Olympic medalist Manu Bhaker in the women’s 10m air pistol event on Tuesday, elevating India’s senior category medal tally to four.

In the qualification round, Chaudhary and Singh demonstrated their skill, aggregating a combined score of 578 to secure fifth place among eight teams advancing to the medal round. Suruchi, who has had an outstanding 2025 season with four ISSF World Cup medals, including a gold in the 10m air pistol mixed team event alongside Chaudhary in Lima, opened with a perfect 100 in the first series. Despite a dip to 94 in the second, she rebounded with a 98 in the third. Chaudhary, an Olympic finalist and Asian Games champion, complemented her performance with consistent scores of 95, 96, and 95, showcasing the pair’s synergy and resilience.

The bronze medal underscores India’s growing strength in shooting, with a 164-member contingent—the largest at the championships—competing across senior and junior events. Suruchi, at just 18, has emerged as a standout talent, having also secured individual golds in Buenos Aires and Lima this year. Chaudhary, with nine career World Cup golds, continues his comeback trail after a quieter period since the 2023 Asian Championships. Their success, alongside the men’s 10m air pistol team silver won by Anmol Jain, Aditya Malra, and Chaudhary on Monday, highlights India’s depth and potential as they aim for further podium finishes before the event concludes on August 30.
