Yuvraj Singh's Lockdown Mentorship Shaped Abhishek Sharma's IPL Success
Young SRH opener credits idol Yuvraj Singh for mental preparation that shaped his IPL success.
Sunrisers Hyderabad opener Abhishek Sharma has credited former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh for playing a major role in shaping his cricketing mindset, saying the veteran helped prepare him mentally for high-pressure matches. Abhishek, who has been one of the standout performers in the ongoing Indian Premier League season, said the lessons learned during training sessions with Yuvraj continue to guide him on the field.
The 25-year-old batter revealed that he trained under Yuvraj Singh during the lockdown period, when the former World Cup winner focused not only on technical skills but also on mental strength. According to Abhishek, Yuvraj repeatedly stressed the importance of delivering in crucial matches and building the temperament required to succeed for India at the highest level. Abhishek said Yuvraj’s words were centred on becoming a match-winner rather than simply scoring runs.
Abhishek has backed up that preparation with strong performances this IPL season. In eight matches, he has scored 380 runs, including three half-centuries and one century, placing him among the tournament’s leading run-scorers. His aggressive starts at the top of the order have been a key factor for Sunrisers Hyderabad, who have relied heavily on their explosive batting unit throughout the campaign.
