Yuvraj Singh Backs Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli; Urges BCCI To Show Faith

Yuvraj Backs Rohit, Virat's ODI Future

Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has called on the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to provide clarity on the futures of senior batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup. Yuvraj said both players deserve transparency regarding their roles after years of service to Indian cricket. His remarks come amid speculation surrounding Rohit Sharma's international future following reports that the third and final ODI against England could be the veteran opener's last appearance in the format.

The reports suggested that selectors were assessing the 39-year-old's recent performances as they plan for the next World Cup cycle. Speaking to Star Sports, Yuvraj said the experience of both Rohit and Kohli could prove invaluable for India during the 2027 ODI World Cup. He stressed that decisions regarding senior players should be communicated clearly so they know where they stand in the team's long-term plans.

Yuvraj also emphasised that Rohit and Kohli have earned respect through their contributions to Indian cricket over the years. He said players of their stature should receive straightforward communication from the selectors rather than being left uncertain about their future. Rohit Sharma has been one of India's most successful ODI batters, holding the record for three double centuries in the format and scoring numerous match-winning hundreds.

Virat Kohli, meanwhile, remains among the highest run-scorers in ODI history and has played a pivotal role in India's success across formats. Both players retired from T20 Internationals after helping India win the T20 World Cup, shifting their focus to ODI cricket with the next 50-over World Cup scheduled for 2027. Their future participation has since become a major topic of discussion among fans and cricket experts.

The BCCI selection committee faces the challenge of balancing the experience of senior players with the need to prepare the next generation of cricketers. As younger players continue to emerge, selectors will have to decide how best to shape India's squad for future ICC tournaments. Yuvraj's comments reflect a broader view within the cricket community that transparent communication benefits both players and the team. Clear decisions allow experienced cricketers to prepare accordingly while helping selectors build a stable squad for upcoming competitions.

Neither the BCCI nor the selection committee has made any official announcement regarding Rohit Sharma's or Virat Kohli's ODI futures. Until such a decision is communicated, speculation is likely to continue over the roles the two batting greats will play in India's plans. With the 2027 ODI World Cup still approaching, discussions surrounding the future of India's senior stars are expected to remain in focus. Yuvraj believes that whatever decision is taken, it should reflect the immense contributions Rohit and Kohli have made while giving them the clarity they deserve.
