Yastika Bhatia Opens Up On Injury Recovery After Historic Lord's Century

Yastika reflects on injury recovery and Lord's milestone.

India wicketkeeper-batter Yastika Bhatia has opened up about her challenging journey back to international cricket after a serious knee injury, saying the difficult period transformed her mindset and taught her valuable lessons in patience and resilience. Days after creating history with a maiden Test century at Lord's, Yastika reflected on the months of rehabilitation that shaped her comeback and strengthened her belief in the process. The left-handed batter said the injury was one of the lowest phases of her career but ultimately helped her become mentally stronger.

Speaking at a press conference organised by the Baroda Cricket Association (BCA), Yastika recalled the disappointment of missing important tournaments during her recovery period. The ACL injury forced her to stay away from cricket when India were preparing for major competitions, including a home World Cup, while she also missed the Women's Premier League. She described that phase as emotionally difficult but said she remained determined to return by focusing on her rehabilitation and recovery process.

Yastika explained that her time away from the game taught her the importance of patience and consistency. She said that even when results were not immediately visible, continuing to follow the right process was essential for making a successful comeback. The wicketkeeper-batter credited her belief in herself and her commitment to rehabilitation as key factors that helped her overcome the setback and return to the international stage.

Her comeback reached a historic high when she became the first woman to score a Test century at Lord's, playing a crucial role in India's memorable victory over England. However, Yastika said the achievement was not just about the record but also about the people who supported her throughout the difficult journey. She acknowledged the contributions of her family, coaches, trainers, and physiotherapists, including those at the Centre of Excellence, for helping her regain confidence and fitness.

Reflecting on her experience, Yastika said the injury and recovery period have changed her approach toward future challenges. She believes the setbacks she faced have made her more confident and prepared to handle difficult situations in her career. The historic Lord's performance, following months of uncertainty, has become a symbol of determination and perseverance for the Indian cricketer as she continues her journey at the highest level.
