WPL 2026 DC vs GG: Late Drama! Devine Strikes Twice in Final Over as Gujarat Giants Win by Just 3 Runs

Sophie Devine and Rajeshwari Gayakwad shine with key wickets as Gujarat Giants defend 174 to beat Delhi Capitals by 3 runs.

Gujarat Giants pulled off a thrilling three-run victory over Delhi Capitals in a high-intensity Women’s Premier League clash on Tuesday, thanks to match-winning spells from Sophie Devine and Rajeshwari Gayakwad. Defending a target of 175, the Giants held their nerve in the final over to restrict Delhi to 171 for 8, sealing a dramatic finish.

Right-arm pacer Sophie Devine led the bowling attack with figures of 4 for 37, while left-arm spinner Rajeshwari Gayakwad claimed 3 for 20 to derail Delhi’s chase at crucial moments. Delhi needed nine runs off the final six balls, but Devine struck twice in the last over, dismissing Sneh Rana and Niki Prasad to turn the match decisively in Gujarat’s favour.

Earlier, sent in to bat, Gujarat Giants posted a competitive 174 for 9. Veteran Australian wicketkeeper-batter Beth Mooney anchored the innings with a composed 58 off 46 balls, while Anushka Sharma provided momentum with a brisk 39 off 25 deliveries. Delhi spinner Shree Charani was the standout bowler for her side, picking up four wickets for 31 runs to keep the Giants in check.

Delhi Capitals began their chase positively, with Shafali Verma scoring 14 off 10 balls before falling to Rajeshwari Gayakwad. Wickets fell at regular intervals as Devine, Gayakwad, and Tanuja Kanwar applied sustained pressure, reducing Delhi to 84 for 5 by the 13th over and pushing the required run rate higher.

The match swung late when Niki Prasad played a sensational counterattacking knock of 47 off 24 balls, while Sneh Rana added 29 off 15 deliveries. The duo smashed 60 runs in just 31 balls, bringing the equation down to nine runs off the final over and threatening to snatch victory from Gujarat.

However, Devine’s calm execution under pressure proved decisive. Rana was caught in the final over, and with four needed off the last ball, Prasad’s attempted winning shot was caught at long-on, sealing a hard-fought win for Gujarat Giants and underlining their resilience in a pulsating WPL encounter.
