Vivek Razdan Backs Bumrah's Return Via Afghanistan T20I Series

Former India pacer Vivek Razdan believes Jasprit Bumrah’s return to international cricket through the upcoming T20I series against Afghanistan is the right move for the fast bowler’s long-term fitness and form. Bumrah is making his comeback after recovering from a left knee injury, and the series is expected to provide him with an opportunity to gradually rebuild his match fitness in competitive conditions.

Razdan feels that returning through a T20I series offers Bumrah a suitable platform to regain rhythm without immediately being exposed to the demands of longer formats. The Afghanistan series could allow the pace spearhead to assess his body, workload and bowling intensity while working his way back into India’s international setup after a period on the sidelines.

Bumrah had missed the third ODI against England as well as the Test series against Sri Lanka because of his injury concerns. His return is viewed as a major boost for India, particularly as the team has not enjoyed its best run in T20I cricket since June. His experience, control and ability to deliver in pressure situations remain vital to India’s plans.

The fast bowler has taken 121 wickets in 95 T20I appearances, underlining his importance in the shortest format. He has also won the T20 World Cup twice and played a decisive role in India’s recent successes, including being named Player of the Tournament during the 2024 edition.

Bumrah also earned the Player of the Match award in the T20 World Cup final against New Zealand earlier this year, further highlighting his influence in major international matches. His ability to produce breakthroughs during crucial phases and restrict scoring at the death makes his return particularly significant for India ahead of the upcoming assignments.

Razdan’s assessment is that easing Bumrah back through the Afghanistan series could prove beneficial in the long run. Rather than rushing him into a demanding schedule, the series may offer India a chance to manage his workload carefully while helping the bowler regain confidence, match sharpness and physical readiness for more important contests ahead.
