Virat Kohli Reportedly Set For Six-Week Recovery, Doubtful For England ODIs

Virat Kohli may miss England ODIs due to hamstring injury concerns.

Indian cricket team star batter Virat Kohli is likely to miss the upcoming ODI series against England due to a hamstring injury, according to a report. The injury reportedly occurred during the IPL 2026 final between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Titans, where Kohli played a match-winning unbeaten knock of 75 despite discomfort.

As per a report by Times of India, Kohli is currently dealing with a hamstring tear that is expected to sideline him for around six weeks. While the injury does not require surgery, it will reportedly involve a structured rehabilitation programme, including recovery at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. Medical consultations, including an MRI review by orthopaedic specialist Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala, have reportedly confirmed the recovery timeline.

If the six-week recovery period holds, Kohli’s participation in the three-match ODI series against England, scheduled to begin on July 14 in Birmingham, could be in serious doubt. The setback comes at a crucial time for India’s ODI preparations, with the team expected to finalize its core batting lineup ahead of a busy international calendar.

The report adds that Kohli had already been ruled out of the preceding ODI series against Afghanistan due to the same injury concern, raising further questions about his fitness ahead of key assignments. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not yet issued an official update on his availability for either series.

Meanwhile, skipper Rohit Sharma is also undergoing fitness evaluation after sustaining a hamstring injury during IPL 2026. He is expected to report to the BCCI Centre of Excellence on June 8 for a three-day assessment, including net sessions under controlled conditions. His participation in the upcoming Afghanistan ODIs will depend on the outcome of these tests.

Rohit is scheduled to join the Indian squad in Dharamshala on June 11, ahead of the first ODI on June 13, provided he clears the fitness assessment. With both senior batters under injury clouds, India’s ODI preparations face uncertainty as the team management awaits clarity on their recovery timelines.
