Varun Chakravarthy's ‘Tea Cup’ Photo After India Defend T20 World Cup Title Goes Viral

Spinner Varun Chakravarthy’s humorous tea-cup photo after India’s T20 World Cup win sparks viral reactions online.

Indian spinner Varun Chakravarthy once again grabbed attention on social media after posting a humorous “tea cup” photo following India’s victory in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup final. The post quickly went viral among fans, many of whom interpreted it as a playful dig at Pakistan after India secured the championship on Sunday.

India sealed the title with a dominant performance against New Zealand national cricket team in the final held in Ahmedabad. Batting first, the Indian side posted a formidable total of 255 for 5 in their allotted 20 overs. The innings was powered by half-centuries from Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, and Ishan Kishan, giving India a commanding position in the title clash.

In response, New Zealand struggled against India’s disciplined bowling attack and were bowled out for 159. The emphatic win not only allowed India national cricket team to defend their T20 World Cup title but also made them the first team in history to lift the trophy three times, marking another milestone in the nation’s cricketing achievements.

Soon after the victory, Chakravarthy shared a photo on Instagram showing himself holding the trophy while sipping tea from a cup. The image sparked widespread amusement online, with fans flooding the comments section with jokes and memes. Many supporters saw the post as a continuation of the spinner’s light-hearted tradition of celebrating major wins with “tea cup” imagery.

The reference dates back to the Asia Cup when India defeated Pakistan in the final. During that tournament, Indian players declined to accept the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, the chief of the Pakistan Cricket Board and chairman of the Asian Cricket Council. As a result, the team returned without the silverware. The following day, Chakravarthy posted a photo of himself lying on a bed with a tea mug beside him, humorously substituting it for the missing trophy.

Reflecting on that earlier moment, Chakravarthy had explained in an interview that he had originally planned to celebrate with the actual trophy beside him. When it was unavailable, he improvised with a coffee mug instead. In the 2026 T20 World Cup campaign, the spinner delivered a mixed but impactful performance, finishing as the joint-highest wicket-taker with 14 wickets, though he also conceded 287 runs in the 31 overs he bowled.
