Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s Post Intensifies Debate Over India Debut Selection
Cryptic post intensifies debate over Sooryavanshi’s India debut chances.
Young Indian cricketer Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is at the centre of growing speculation ahead of the second T20 International against England, with indications suggesting that the 15-year-old may be in line for a potential senior India debut. The discussion intensified after Sooryavanshi posted a cryptic “new chapter” message on social media, which fans interpreted as a hint toward his long-awaited international opportunity.
Sooryavanshi has been part of the Indian squad on the ongoing United Kingdom tour but has not yet featured in a match. He was also benched during the preceding T20Is against Ireland and remained unused in the opening match of the England series, which was abandoned after India’s batting innings. Despite not playing, the young opener has drawn attention for his performances in training sessions and net practice with the national side.
India bowling coach Morne Morkel addressed the selection discussion on the eve of the second T20I, stating that it would be unfair to rush the youngster into the playing XI at the cost of established performers. He highlighted the importance of backing senior players such as Abhishek Sharma, previously the world’s top-ranked T20I batter, and Sanju Samson, who had a strong showing in the T20 World Cup 2026, emphasising continuity and trust in the existing top order.

Morkel further noted that while Sooryavanshi has impressed the coaching staff during practice sessions, the team management’s priority remains maintaining stability within the squad. He said it is essential to support players who have delivered under pressure in international cricket while gradually integrating emerging talent into the setup rather than making abrupt changes.
The bowling coach also acknowledged the teenager’s composure in training, stating that Sooryavanshi has adapted smoothly to the international environment. He added that the youngster’s net performances have been encouraging and that the coaching staff is excited about his future prospects, while reiterating that any opportunity would come at the right time based on team balance.
Meanwhile, India’s batting combination remains under scrutiny following Sanju Samson’s lean run of scores on the tour. With selection discussions ongoing, the possibility of changes in the top order has fueled speculation that Sooryavanshi could be handed his debut, although no official confirmation has been made by the team management.
