Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is Ready For India — and Tendulkar's Record is in his Sights

Sooryavanshi's historic IPL season earns India's youngest-ever international cricket call-up.

Teenage cricket sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is on the brink of making history after receiving his maiden call-up to India's national T20I squad. The 15-year-old has been selected for India's upcoming tours of Ireland and England, as well as the 2026 Asian Games. If he takes the field during either of the international assignments, Sooryavanshi will become the youngest player to represent the Indian men's cricket team, surpassing the record previously held by Sachin Tendulkar. His selection marks a significant milestone in one of the most remarkable rises in recent Indian cricket history.

Sooryavanshi's elevation to the national side follows a sensational IPL 2026 campaign that established him as one of the brightest young talents in the game. Opening the batting for Rajasthan Royals, the teenager accumulated 776 runs in 16 matches and emerged as the youngest Orange Cap winner in the tournament's history. His consistency and aggressive stroke play made him one of the standout performers of the season.

The young batter's numbers were extraordinary. He averaged 48.50 and registered a strike rate of 237.30, the highest strike rate ever recorded by a player scoring more than 500 runs in a single IPL season. His fearless approach against experienced bowlers drew widespread attention and helped Rajasthan Royals remain competitive throughout the tournament.

India chief selector Ajit Agarkar credited Sooryavanshi's performances for forcing the selectors' hand. Speaking about the youngster's inclusion, Agarkar acknowledged his age but emphasized that the batter's achievements over two IPL seasons, combined with his strong performances at the Under-19 level, made him impossible to overlook. The selectors believe his talent and temperament justify an early opportunity at the international level.

Sooryavanshi also rewrote the IPL record books by smashing 72 sixes during the season, surpassing Chris Gayle's previous record of 59 sixes in a single edition of the tournament. His explosive batting earned praise from fans and experts alike while strengthening calls for his inclusion in the national team. With a potential debut now on the horizon, all eyes will be on the teenager as he looks to begin his international career and add another historic achievement to his rapidly growing list of accomplishments.
