Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Climbs To 48th In Latest ICC T20I Rankings

India’s teenage cricket sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has made a major jump in the ICC Men’s T20I Batting Rankings, reaching a career-best 48th position after his impressive performances in the recent series against Zimbabwe. The 15-year-old opener climbed 230 places in the rankings following a match-winning campaign that helped India secure a 3-0 series victory.

Sooryavanshi emerged as India’s leading run-scorer in the three-match T20I series in Harare, scoring 151 runs at an average of 50.33 and a strike rate of 196.1. His consistent performances earned him his first Player of the Series award and strengthened his reputation as one of the most exciting young talents in international cricket.

The left-handed batter made an immediate impact in the opening T20I by smashing a half-century off just 19 balls. He continued his strong form in the final match, recording his highest international score of 81 runs from 49 deliveries. His performances also saw him become the first male cricketer in T20I history to score multiple half-centuries before turning 16.

Sooryavanshi’s latest ranking achievement adds to a remarkable start to his international career. He made his India debut during the tour of England and became the youngest player to represent the country at the international level at the age of 15 years, 3 months, and 7 days, surpassing the previous record held by cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar.

The young opener faced challenges during his early international outings but responded strongly during the Zimbabwe series with an aggressive batting style and mature approach. India head coach for the Zimbabwe tour, VVS Laxman, praised Sooryavanshi’s ability to learn quickly, adapt to international cricket, and maintain a strong work ethic alongside his natural talent.

With his latest rankings rise, Sooryavanshi joins a strong group of Indian batters in the ICC T20I rankings. Ishan Kishan, Abhishek Sharma, and Tilak Varma remain among the highest-ranked Indian players, while Sooryavanshi’s entry into the top 50 marks another milestone in his rapidly developing career.

India’s dominant series win over Zimbabwe also helped the team regain the No. 1 position in the ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings. The defending T20 World Cup champions will next face the West Indies in a five-match T20I series scheduled from October 6 to 17.
