Under-16 Safeguarding Rules Mean Separate Changing Room For Vaibhav Sooryavanshi
Youngster Vaibhav Sooryavanshi follows safeguarding rules during England tour.
Teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is set to take another major step in his rapidly rising cricket career as he joins India's senior men's team for the upcoming white-ball tour of Ireland and England. The 15-year-old, who emerged as the leading run-scorer in IPL 2026 with 776 runs, has earned his maiden call-up to the national T20 squad and could become the youngest player to represent India at the senior international level.
However, despite being part of the Indian squad, Sooryavanshi will reportedly use separate changing-room facilities during the England leg of the tour. According to a report by The Guardian, the arrangement is being implemented under safeguarding regulations applicable to ICC-approved events. The rules are designed to protect underage players participating in senior-level international competitions.
As per the report, both the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) prohibit players under the age of 16 from sharing adult changing rooms. As a result, Sooryavanshi will have access to separate facilities at all venues during the tour. The restrictions apply only when players are changing before and after matches, while he will still be permitted to attend team meetings, participate in discussions, and spend time in the Indian dressing room during games.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also taken additional measures to ensure the youngster's comfort during his first overseas tour with the senior side. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that Sooryavanshi's parents will accompany him throughout the tour, which includes two T20Is against Ireland and five matches against England, beginning in Belfast on June 26.
Saikia said the decision was made keeping in mind the unique challenges faced by a player of Sooryavanshi's age. He noted that it is rare for a 15-year-old to be part of a senior national team environment, drawing comparisons with Sachin Tendulkar, who made his international debut as a teenager. According to Saikia, parental support will help the young cricketer adapt to a dressing room largely occupied by adults and experienced international players.
Sooryavanshi's selection comes after a breakthrough season that established him as one of India's most promising cricket talents. While expectations surrounding the teenager continue to grow, Indian cricket authorities appear focused on balancing his development with appropriate safeguards, ensuring that he can transition smoothly into the demands of international cricket while remaining supported both on and off the field.
