Toor, Sable, Parul Lead 15-Member India Athletics Squad for Asian Games

India names 15 athletes for Asian Games, led by Toor and Sable.

Tajinderpal Singh Toor, Avinash Sable and Parul Chaudhary are among 15 Indian athletes who won medals at the previous Asian Games and have been selected for the country’s athletics squad for the upcoming Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. The experienced group also includes Annu Rani and Murali Sreeshankar, giving India a strong contingent of returning medallists. Their selection reflects the country’s reliance on athletes with proven performances at the continental level.

Toor, a leading figure in Indian shot put, will return to the Asian Games squad after featuring among India’s medal winners at the previous edition. Avinash Sable, who has established himself as one of India’s leading distance runners, is also part of the squad. Parul Chaudhary, another prominent name in Indian athletics, has been selected alongside them as the country prepares for the upcoming continental competition.

Annu Rani and Murali Sreeshankar are among the other returning medallists included in the team. Rani has been a key presence in Indian women’s javelin, while Sreeshankar has represented the country prominently in the long jump. Their inclusion adds further experience to an athletics squad that features several athletes who have already delivered medal-winning performances at the Asian Games.

The list also includes Rajesh Ramesh, Jyothi Yarraji, Ancy Sojan, Vithya Ramraj and Mohammed Afsal, all of whom were among India’s medallists at the previous Asian Games. Their return gives the squad continuity and brings together athletes from a range of track and field disciplines. India will look to this group to reproduce their earlier success while competing against some of Asia’s strongest athletics programmes.

Tejaswin Shankar, Gulveer Singh, Praveen Chithravel, Manju Rani and Prachi Choudhary complete the list of returning 2022 medallists named in the athletics contingent. The selection brings together established performers and athletes who have already demonstrated their ability to compete successfully at the continental level. Their experience could prove valuable as India seeks to strengthen its medal tally in athletics at the Aichi-Nagoya Games.

The upcoming Asian Games will provide another major opportunity for India’s track and field athletes to compete on the continental stage. With 15 previous medallists included, the squad combines familiarity with the demands of Asian-level competition and a strong record of past achievement. The performances of Toor, Sable, Chaudhary and their returning teammates will be closely watched as India targets another successful athletics campaign at the Games.
