T20 World Cup 2026: We Gave 110% Against England Says Nepal Captain
Nepal captain Rohit Paudel expresses pride in the team's fighting spirit after a narrow four-run defeat to England.
Nepal captain Rohit Paudel said disappointment was inevitable, but pride outweighed the result after his team suffered a narrow four-run defeat against two-time champions England in their opening match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. Nepal came close to creating history while chasing a stiff target, pushing England to the limit in a tense last-over finish.
Chasing 185, Nepal were restricted to 180 for six despite mounting sustained pressure on England for large parts of the innings. Paudel played a pivotal role, sharing an 82-run partnership with Dipendra Singh Airee that shifted momentum and exposed England’s bowling under pressure. The stand raised hopes of a famous upset before England held their nerve in the closing moments.
Speaking after the match, Paudel praised his team’s fearless approach and commitment. He said the message before taking the field was simple—to give everything possible against a strong opponent. According to the skipper, the players delivered on that promise, showing belief, intensity, and resilience throughout the contest.

Paudel stressed that Nepal arrived at the World Cup with clear intent and ambition, not merely to participate. He said the team believed it could challenge any side if it played its best brand of cricket, adding that the performance against England reflected Nepal’s growing confidence and maturity on the global stage.
While pleased with the overall effort in batting, bowling, and fielding, Paudel admitted there was room for improvement, particularly in handling high-pressure situations at the death. He acknowledged England’s execution in the final over, crediting Sam Curran for his composure and precision under pressure.
Looking ahead, Paudel said Nepal would remain focused and cautious as they prepare for their next match against Italy at the same venue on February 12. He also thanked Nepal’s fans for their passionate support, saying their presence and belief served as a major source of motivation for the team.
