Suryakumar Yadav Fumes at Rinku Singh After Dropped Catch in T20 World Cup

India Captain survives injury scare after fielding confusion but guides team to hard-fought T20 World Cup victory.

India skipper Suryakumar Yadav experienced a tense moment on the field during India’s T20 World Cup clash against the Netherlands after a near-collision with teammate Rinku Singh while attempting a catch. The incident occurred in the final over when Zach Lion-Cachet miscued a shot off Shivam Dube, sending the ball high into the air.

Although Rinku appeared better positioned, Suryakumar signalled his intent to take the catch while running backwards. Both fielders converged under the ball but narrowly avoided a collision, only for the ball to spill out of the captain’s hands. The moment left Suryakumar visibly frustrated, though India maintained control of the match.

Earlier, Suryakumar expressed satisfaction with the decision to bat first after India posted a competitive 193/6 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Despite early setbacks, including Abhishek Sharma’s third consecutive duck and quick strikes by the Netherlands in the Power-play, India recovered strongly through the middle overs.

Dube emerged as the standout performer with a blistering 66 off just 31 balls, accelerating the innings with a 25-ball half-century. His aggressive stroke play shifted momentum decisively, while Rinku Singh added crucial late runs to power India close to the 200-run mark. Suryakumar praised Dube’s intent and impact, highlighting his consistency in recent matches.

Defending the total, India’s bowlers held their nerve to restrict the Netherlands and secure a 17-run victory. Reflecting on the team’s performance, Suryakumar emphasized adaptability and collective contribution, noting that India’s depth in both batting and bowling provides flexibility depending on match conditions. He added that even in victory, the team continues to identify areas for improvement as the tournament progresses.
