Suryakumar Yadav Credits Bollywood Music Montage for India's T20 World Cup Revival
Suryakumar reveals a Bollywood video montage and dressing room fun powered India's World Cup comeback.
Suryakumar Yadav has revealed how a motivational video featuring Bollywood music helped the Indian team recover from a setback during the 2026 ICC Men's T20 World Cup campaign. The Indian captain said the short montage, which highlighted the team’s dominant performances over the previous two years, played a crucial role in lifting morale after India’s defeat to the South Africa national cricket team in the Super 8 stage of the tournament. According to Suryakumar, the video helped the players reset mentally and refocus on their strengths.
The montage, prepared by the team’s video analyst, included two separate segments—one featuring Indian batters and another showcasing the bowlers. The clips were set to energising Bollywood tracks, including songs from the film Baahubali: The Beginning and the song “O Shera Teer Te Taj” from Kesari Chapter 2. Suryakumar said the 10-minute video reminded the players of the team’s recent achievements and helped rebuild confidence at a crucial moment in the tournament.
The captain also credited the contribution of support staff in strengthening team spirit through small but meaningful initiatives. Fielding coach T. Dilip introduced a ₹10,000 reward for the best fielder during practice sessions, encouraging healthy competition among players. According to Suryakumar, such initiatives and behind-the-scenes efforts played an important role in maintaining positivity within the squad throughout the tournament.

Under Suryakumar’s leadership, the team topped its group stage after registering wins over the United States national cricket team, Pakistan national cricket team, Namibia national cricket team, and Netherlands national cricket team. The defeat against South Africa in Ahmedabad briefly threatened their momentum but ultimately served as a turning point for the squad.
After regrouping, India returned with strong performances in the remaining matches, defeating the Zimbabwe national cricket team and the West Indies cricket team to secure a place in the semifinals. In the knockout stage, India overcame a tough challenge from the England cricket team, with a standout performance from Sanju Samson helping the team advance to the final.
India eventually defeated the New Zealand national cricket team in the final to lift their record-extending third T20 World Cup title. Suryakumar also highlighted the importance of maintaining a relaxed atmosphere within the team, saying open communication and humour played a vital role in building unity. He recalled light-hearted moments in the dressing room involving players like Rinku Singh and Tilak Varma, noting that such interactions helped strengthen team bonds during high-pressure situations.
