Suryakumar Yadav Addresses Viral Captaincy Claim, Supports Indian Cricket Team

Suryakumar responds to captaincy speculation and backs India.

Suryakumar Yadav has rejected a fake statement circulating on social media that falsely claimed he was unhappy after losing India’s T20I captaincy and being left out of the national squad. The Indian batter clarified that the message being shared online was not made or authorised by him and urged fans to avoid believing or spreading unverified information.

In a post on X, Suryakumar expressed his continued support for Team India and wished the players success in their ongoing white-ball assignments. “I'm very happy for the team and wish them nothing but the very best, always,” he wrote, adding that he knows the players are giving their best and will always have his full support.

The 35-year-old also shared a special message for young batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who recently made his international debut at the age of 15. Suryakumar encouraged the youngster to enjoy the early stages of his career and continue making the country proud as he begins what could be a promising journey in international cricket.

Addressing the viral post directly, Suryakumar said he had noticed a statement being falsely attributed to him and made it clear that he had no involvement with it. He stated that his commitment to Indian cricket, his teammates, and the sport would always be stronger than any misleading claims shared online.

The clarification comes after changes in India’s T20I leadership and squad selection. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) appointed Shreyas Iyer as the new T20I captain for the Ireland and England series, while Suryakumar was not included in the squad following a difficult run of form during the 2026 T20 World Cup.

Suryakumar, who previously led India to the T20 World Cup 2026 title, remains one of the country’s most successful T20 batters. His latest statement aimed to end speculation surrounding his future while reinforcing his support for the national team and reminding fans to rely on verified information rather than unconfirmed social media claims.
