Shahid Afridi Blasts Pakistan Selectors, Questions Son-in-Law Shaheen's Captaincy Decision
Afridi publicly blamed selectors for Pakistan's ODI series loss against Bangladesh.
Former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi has openly criticised the Pakistan Cricket Board’s selection committee following the team’s disappointing ODI series loss to Bangladesh. The defeat, which saw Pakistan lose the third ODI under the leadership of Salman Ali Agha, prompted Afridi to question key decisions made by the selectors. He specifically took aim at the appointment of his son-in-law, Shaheen Afridi, as captain, suggesting that the move lacked strategic sense.
Afridi also questioned the exclusion of star batter Babar Azam from the squad, citing the player’s consistent performances and arguing that removing him after the T20 World Cup campaign was unjustified. He noted that Pakistan had already underperformed at the World Cup, failing to reach the semifinals, and the recent ODI series only highlighted deeper issues in team management and selection.
In a video shared on social media, Afridi delivered a scathing critique of the selectors, blaming them for what he described as a lack of coherent planning and poor decision-making. He emphasised that team strategy and leadership appointments should be based on merit and past performance rather than personal affiliations.
