Rohit Sharma Reveals What He And Virat Kohli Discuss During Matches

Rohit Sharma has opened up about the conversations he has with Virat Kohli while the two bat together for India, saying their discussions are generally focused on the immediate demands of the game rather than the significance of playing in a World Cup. With the 2027 ODI World Cup approaching, both players are expected to feature in what could be their final appearance at the tournament.

Kohli has already been part of four ODI World Cups, representing India in the 2011, 2015, 2019 and 2023 editions. He was part of India's title-winning campaign in 2011, while the team reached the final in 2023 under Rohit's captaincy before losing to Australia. The 2027 tournament will give Kohli an opportunity to compete in his fifth 50-over World Cup.

Speaking to JioStar ahead of India's second ODI against the West Indies, Rohit said Kohli does not need to be reminded about the importance of a World Cup because of his extensive experience in the tournament. According to Rohit, their conversations while batting together are instead centred on practical aspects such as deciding which bowlers to attack, when to take singles and how to manage situations during an innings.

Rohit also revealed that their discussions can sometimes be as simple as communicating about physical discomfort while batting. He recalled telling Kohli to be careful about running between the wickets when he was experiencing discomfort in his leg. Such exchanges, he said, have remained a normal part of their partnership throughout their years together in international cricket.

The Indian opener also said that although he and Kohli have different personalities and approaches to conducting themselves on the field, their objectives for the team remain similar. He said their focus is on winning matches and tournaments, succeeding in series and helping other members of the team whenever possible.

With the 2027 ODI World Cup now around a year away, attention will increasingly turn towards India's preparations for the tournament. The official schedule is due to be announced on October 1, while Kohli is set to enter the competition with four previous World Cup campaigns behind him and Rohit seeking success in the ODI tournament after India's run to the final in 2023.
