Rohit Sharma Earns Honorary Doctorate For Unparalleled Cricket Leadership

Former India captain Rohit Sharma will be conferred with an Honorary Doctorate (Doctor of Literature) by Ajeenkya DY Patil University (ADYPU) in recognition of his “unparalleled contribution” to cricket and “exemplary leadership” on the global stage. The honour will be presented during the university’s 10th Convocation Ceremony scheduled to be held on Saturday.

The university announced on Wednesday that Rohit Sharma will be a key highlight of the landmark convocation event, which is expected to be a star-studded affair. ADYPU said the decision reflects Sharma’s sustained excellence in the sport, his impact as a leader, and the values he represents both on and off the field.

In a statement, the university noted that while fans widely know Rohit as the “Hitman” of cricket, the convocation marks a different kind of milestone in his career. The ceremony will be presided over by the university’s president and chancellor, Dr Ajeenkya D Y Patil, who will formally confer the honorary degree on the veteran cricketer.

Rohit Sharma, 38, recently retired from Test and T20 international cricket but continues to represent India in the ODI format. The convocation ceremony will also honour several other individuals from diverse fields who have made notable contributions to society, underscoring the university’s emphasis on excellence, leadership, and social impact.
